Hurricane season is here again and it is time to make sure your satellite phones are ready when needed. This newsletter is intended for our Globalstar Customers and those who have shown interest in satellite communications.
SATELLITE CONSTELLATION UPDATE
Four spare satellites were successfully launched on May 29th and four more are scheduled for late summer. Alcatel is under contract to design, manufacture, and deliver 40 new next generation satellites with completion in July, 2010. All current and previous Globalstar phones will be compatible with the new network.
NEW UNLIMITED AIRTIME PLANS ANNOUNCED
Satellite phone call pricing has always been an inhibitor for our users and prospects. Globalstar has changed this with their new UNLIMITED LOYALTY plans.
Worrying about $1.49 per minute is no longer a problem. Now you can use your phone all you want for $999 plus activation and taxes until June 30th 2010. This plan includes UNLIMITED voice usage in your Home Area (US, Canada, Carribean) and FREE long distance for calls from your Home area to the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico.
You can also choose to pay monthly - $49.99 this year, $39.99 next year, and $19.99 until June, 2010. If you maintain continuous Globalstar service through 2010 you will receive a bonus year at $19.99 per month after the Second Generation network launch. Early termination fees have been eliminated for all new and existing Unlimited Loyalty plans.
The existing Emergency, Liberty, and Freedom plans remain available. Contact us if you want to change your plan. We will be happy to do it.
SATELLITE AVAILABILITY TOOL
Globalstar's 48 low earth orbiting satellites circle the globe every 114 minutes. Your phone connects to a new "bird" every 12 minutes as they come over the horizon. A few of the satellites are nearing the end of their life earlier than expected.
Globalstar has indicated to us you may experience periods when it takes longer to connect to their system or times when your call in progress could be dropped. This could further degrade until the new satellites are launched in 2010.
To help you plan your communications, Globalstar developed a web-based tool that forecasts satellite availability for your location over the upcoming 24-hour period. You will need your Globalstar satellite phone number (or you can use mine at the bottom of this newsletter), time zone, and zip code. The link to access the tool is below:

FREE 35-character text messages can be sent to a GSP-1600 or GSP-1700 by using the globalstar 10 digit telephone number to the email address: ##########@msg.globalstarusa.com
You can store at least 91 text messages in your phone.
Satellite phones do not have caller ID capability.
Hand-held satellite phones will not work indoors. The phone antenna must be extended and pointed up towards the sky to operate.
NEW GLOBALSTAR PRODUCTS
In case you have not heard, Globalstar's new GSP-1700 hand-held phone is 40% smaller, has a color screen, Bluetooth, and longer talk time. We have updated our web page info, introduced a new Emergency Kit with a smaller Pelican case, and added pricing to our web store too.
